The ACCJ endeavours to explore the encounter between criminal law and complex international, transnational and subversive criminality, and other areas of increasing importance such as digitalisation, the environment and sustainability, migration, conflict, and the impact of historic and structural injustices in modern society. These focal areas reflect prominent global issues and contribute to the debate surrounding the ethical underpinnings of criminal law at national, transnational and international levels.
Oriented towards the identification and critique of legal and policy solutions to modern-day challenges posed to criminal law and justice by social transformations resulting from these issues, the ACCJ’s research is organised in 3 main pillars:
