    Merle Kooijman (1994) works as PhD fellow at the Amsterdam Center for Criminal Justice (ACCJ) at the University of Amsterdam’s criminal law section. She works on a dissertation on the philosophical foundations of an international crime of ecocide, supervised by prof. dr. Göran Sluiter, dr. Sergey Vasiliev and dr. Laura Burgers. Her research interests include critical legal theory, (international) criminal law (theory), environmental philosophy and posthumanist philosophy. Kooijman teaches criminal law courses in the bachelor and master program.

    Kooijman has graduated from Utrecht University (Bachelor in law and Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy) and the University of Amsterdam (Research Master in Philosophy and Master in Criminal Law (cum laude)). For her PhD research, she stayed for three months at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2023.
