    Bas Hellemons is a PhD Fellow (lecturer/researcher) at Criminal Law section of the Faculty of Law at the University of Amsterdam. He focuses mainly on substantive criminal law, in particular discrimination offences. His PhD research focuses on 'hate crimes' in Dutch criminal law.

    In addition to his PhD research, he contributes to the education within the Dutch Bachelor of Law and the Dutch Master of Criminal Law. He teaches the introductory bachelor course ‘Strafrecht’ and the master course ‘Verdieping Materieel Strafrecht’. He also supervises undergraduate and graduate thesis students.

    Since 2023, Bas Hellemons has been one of the coordinators of the Amsterdam Center for Criminal Justice.
