This year’s conference theme is Reimagining Justice:
Justice has long been a guiding principle in both law and philosophy, yet its realization within legal systems remains fraught with contradictions. While law enforces order through punitive mechanisms, justice—as thinkers like Hannah Arendt have noted—often transcends rigid legal norms, remaining an elusive ideal. This conference seeks to explore the tensions between law’s coercive structures and justice’s moral imperatives, examining how legal actors—judges, lawmakers, and scholars—interpret and shape justice.
We invite contributions that address justice through feminist and critical lenses, engaging with key questions such as: How do legal systems reconcile justice with punishment? How do power, race, and gender shape access to justice? What alternatives exist beyond retributive legal frameworks? How can legal institutions evolve to foster more inclusive and transformative justice practices?

Conference Contribution
Due to financial constraints in legal philosophy, securing funding has been particularly challenging this year. As many scholars in Central Europe have institutional support for conference fees, we have introduced a €100 conference fee. However, if you lack institutional funding or would need to cover this personally, please reach out to the organizers (saficonference2025@gmail.com) — they will gladly provide a fee waiver.
This year’s conference is organized by Kritika Maheshwari (Delft) and Hadassa Noorda (Amsterdam). For further information, feel free to contact the organizers via saficonference2025@gmail.com.
