On Tuesday 20th May, Göran Sluiter presented his upcoming paper entitled "Maritime Piracy: a crime with flaws and challenges" (Maritieme piraterij – een misdrijf met gebreken en uitdagingen).

The crime of maritime piracy -marine robbery- was in the spotlight ten to fifteen years ago because of many hijackings by Somali pirates. In his paper, Professor Sluiter discusses the lessons that can be learned from that period for the criminal law approach to piracy in any future cases. It concludes that both the international and national criminal justice framework of piracy can be improved.

The ACCJ’s biweekly Research Meetings offer an opportunity for members to present and discuss ongoing and prospective research projects with colleagues at UvA’s Criminal Law Section.
