On 17 July 2014, Flight MH17 was downed over Eastern Ukraine. Several legal proceedings followed, including criminal prosecution of suspects in the Netherlands, compensation claims, individual and inter-state complaints against Russia at the European Court of Human Rights, and the holding accountable of Russia by the Netherlands and Australia at the International Civil Aviation Organization.

The Legal Roadmap MH17, published by ACCJ Member dr. Marieke de Hoon, is a user-friendly overview of the legal proceedings to enable everyone to better understand and follow what proceedings take place where, and what they are about. In accessible language accompanied by colors, timelines and infographics, it explains the very complex legal issues at stake per procedure, and how they interact with each other.
